March 23, Icebreaker Canoe Race—Saranac Lake
The "fun" Adirondack canoe season opener. Race takes place on the Saranac River, through downtown Saranac Lake. Generally attract 60+ boats. Garners lots of press as season opener, and change of the seasons event. Spectator-friendly course.

May 19, 'Round the Mountain Race—Saranac Lake
An 11-mile race on a beautiful course. Race starts at Ampersand Bay, heads west on Lower Saranac Lake, to the Saranac River. Paddlers negotiate a short portage, then cross Oseetah Lake, and head to finish line on Lake Flower in the village of Saranac Lake. Attracts 75+ boats. This race is the first in the "TOP OF THE STATE" series.

June 15 & 16—Tupper Lake Flatwater Weekend
Held in conjunction with the Adirondack Museum's "No Octane Regatta". The Saturday race is a 9-mile sprint down the Raquette River and across Simon Pond near the village of Tupper Lake. It is the second race in the "TOP OF THE STATE" race series. The Sunday race begins in Long Lake and follows the Raquette River for 40 miles, skirting the southern edge of the High Peaks Wilderness Area.

July 7, Willard Hanmer Guideboat and Canoe Races—Saranac Lake
An authentic Adirondack community event! All kinds of races for youth, to "granddaddy's." Guideboats, a uniquely Adirondack craft, take center stage.

August 11, The Adirondack Arc Marathon—Tupper Lake
A 30-mile race from Saranac Inn on Upper Saranac Lake, down the Raquette River to Tupper Lake. The Arc Marathon has earned a great reputation as a well-organized race on a varied and challenging course. Racers paddle big lakes, ponds, creeks and rivers. There is a post-race barbecue and live music.

September 6, 7 & 8, The Adirondack Canoe Classic
Old Forge to Saranac Lake along the original "highways of the Adirondacks"
"The 90-Miler" attracts canoeists from all over the country to compete in the three-stage race. Hosted by the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Numerous businesses are involved in providing meals, lodging, and support to the traveling entourage of the 250-boat field of canoes, guideboats and kayaks. 2002 is the 20th year of the race. Commemorative activities and broad media exposure are planned.
